Minneapolis-Moline UTU vs UTS: Row-Crop vs Standard U
The Minneapolis-Moline UTU and UTS are the same U-series tractor in two front-end configurations — the UTU is a tricycle-front row-crop (the universal U), the UTS a standard-front (wheatland) tractor.
| Model | Years | Configuration | Fuel |
|---|---|---|---|
| UTU | 1938–1955 | Row-crop, tricycle front (universal) | Gasoline |
| UTS | 1948–1957 | Standard-front (wheatland) | Gasoline |
How to tell them apart
- Front end: per TractorData’s U-series data, the UTU is the row-crop tricycle and the UTS is the standard-front version. See our model-suffix guide for the full U-variant set (UTN, UTE, UTC, UTI).
- Serial / plate: decode your serial for the model and year.
- Era: both overlap through the 1940s–50s, so configuration — not year — is the separator.
